Butterfield Stage Day 2012

My faithful friend, Nancy & I spent our Friday teaching fourth graders to quilt at Butterfield Stage Day. All the fourth graders in the area come to Zalud Park once a year to learn about California History. There were almost 90 stations for them to visit, including Native American Dancers, a Model A to climb on, a working cannon which regularly kept our hearts pumping, & Dutch Oven cooking. Here's our little set up complete with quilt blocks, bed, & quilts to work on.

Some had a little trouble with the wooden hoops.

We taught them to thread a needle, then knot their thread & start stitching.

 Great cooperation.

 Such concentration!

And close by, here's my favorite gold miner in action.

He's also our set up crew, roadie, & moral support. ;)

Big changes at the Mermaid!

Wow. Have I been derelict in my bloggy duties or what?!
It's good to be back at it, but I have to say, this has been a very busy month for us. The shop has been hopping, school has been very time consuming, & I have a million new ideas for fall - since it finally feels like fall around here. I kinda feel like dropping everything & just hiding in my sewing room.

We have a bunch of new fabric & patterns in the shop.
Our teachers have some great new classes ready for you, & we have some
big savings events coming up!

Halloween October 31- stop in & spin to see what your discount will be!

October Classes

We have some great classes lined up this fall. Check our our calendar here:
or stop in at the shop to see the samples. Our teachers are the best, if I do say so myself!

Jenny has a children's sewing class this month. These adorable (& reusable) Trick or Treat Bags are made from a Halloween panel.

So simple & so cute!
Sheri has been working on a Feathered Christmas wall hanging. This gorgeous pattern is quick & easy, using Accuquilt dies. When you take her class, you're welcome to use our dies & Accuquilt system. You might just decide you'd like a set for yourself.

Jen will be teaching the Zig Zag Class again this month. It's great for beginners, & could be a great baby quilt or holiday throw. Choose your own size & fabrics.

Becky's Beginning Quilting Class meets Tuesdays from 4-6. This beautiful blue sampler is Wanda's.

Adena's Wonky Star Quilt Class is perfect for using up those scraps.

Here's Jenny's latest Dresden Table Topper. She used batiks in her fall piece.

Sheri will be teaching this Harvest Time Throw. You'll perfect those pesky half square triangles.

Check out Margaret's Yo Yo Christmas centerpieces. This is going to be a really popular class.

Get ready for this amazing paper-pieced beauty!
Tulip Time Block of the Month will begin in January. We're already registering, so reserve yours now. It's a 13 month program, with monthly paper piecing classes taught by Sheri.

Blazing Bras at Relay for Life

Many thanks to our bra creators! We had 3 entries, which raised over $200!
Update! 2 of the bras were auctioned off at the Relay, so our total is over $300 & counting!
The winner of the popular $1 votes was the last one, Panther Pride, sporting orange & green of one of our local high schools.

Our plan was to have the firefighters model the bras at the Relay, but the sizing was a little tricky.
So the Boy Scouts stepped up & saved the day!

One bra has been sold & another was raffled off at the Relay, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. Thank you to everyone who helped!
Start thinking up your ideas for next year!
